Description

The diary entries of 1876 span the entire year. Schweigert writes about visiting his in-laws, the Millers, with his wife Emma and their young son, Charles. He also writes of teaching school at School No. 4 in Wayne District. He attended events, such as a debate at the Friedensburg School on Jan. On Feb. 15, Schweigert wins a local election in Friedensburg, writing: “I was a candidate for register and received 149 votes of the 150 votes polled.” Schweigert also documents his trips to the Pottsville market and various farming and laboring jobs, in addition to attending church and teaching school at School House No. 4 in Wayne Township (Schuylkill County, Pennsylvania).
