Fraternal Organizations
Henry W. Schweigert was a member of both the Independent Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.) and the Junior Order of United American Machinists (J.O.U.A.M.) during the late 19th Century. These ogranizations had set rituals and principles, often provided aid to charities and orphanages, and provided their members with life insurance that would pay money to members' families following their death. Schweigert's participation in each ogranization fluctuated over time, with more diary references to attending meetings in his early adulthood years.
